This past weekend was filled with aerial displays, hands-on learning, and the sights and sounds of America’s military.

An open house at Malmstrom was a big success, according to leaders at the base.

They told MTN News they’re estimating around 13,000 people attended the event.

The F-22 Raptors put on an extra show Sunday to make up for weather delays on Saturday.

Officials said they are currently working with the 120th Air National Guard to host future events. They added they would like to extend a “big thank you” to everyone who supported and attended the 2019 open house.

One of the performers at this weekend’s Mission Over Malmstrom has a special connection to the Great Falls community.

Joey Baker is a pilot with the United States Army Golden Knights, the parachute team that showed off high flying tricks as part of the air shows and open house.

Before joining the Army, Baker was in the Air Force. In fact, Malmstrom Air Force Base was his first duty location as a missileer from 1997 to 1999.

Now, as he gets ready to retire, Baker flew one of his last airs shows back where his military career began.

“So it’s kinda cool to get that full circle, even though it’s back in the Army now, but to come back full circle and get one of my last air shows to be here,” said Baker.

KRTV tagged along for a ride with Baker and Golden Knights. You can see inside the plane and watch the team prepare for their jumps here.
