What's up with those odd posts on the KRTV Facebook page?

Several people have asked recently about certain posts on the KRTV Facebook page that they believe are advertisements and/or "not newsy."

In fact, those posts are made by Scripps, the corporate owner of KRTV. Scripps bought KRTV and our affiliate MTN stations (KPAX. KTVQ, KBZK, KTVH, KXLF, KXLH) in May 2019. Scripps owns dozens of TV stations across the country, and also owns the SimpleMost.com website and the Don't Waste Your Money website.

In September, Scripps began posting between one and four articles each day to the KRTV Facebook page. The posts are links to articles on SimpleMost and Don't Waste Your Money, and are designed to have broad appeal and feature light-hearted news, some pop-culture items, and occasional deals from retailers.

The posts are made to all Scripps-owned TV station Facebook pages across the country within an hour or two of each other, which is why - if you follow more than one MTN or Scripps news page - you may see a post pop up more than once in your feed, like this:

However, those posts are not sponsored or paid. Facebook has very strict rules about sponsored/paid posts - they must be clearly labeled as such, and must also include a link to the business or agency that paid for the post. Media pages that violate the rule can be shut down permanently by Facebook.

We understand that not every person appreciates every such post, but the response so far has been mostly positive.

These posts are not done by KRTV, and nobody at KRTV (or any MTN or Scripps station) has any control over them. If you don't like them, please just scroll on by. If you want to let Scripps know how you feel about them (for better or worse), you can email simplemostmedia@scripps.com.

Here are two recent examples of sponsored posts on the KRTV Facebook page - as you can see, they are both labeled as PAID PARTNERSHIP, and each contains a link to the sponsoring business. The first one is for The Palm Tree Hair & Nail Salon, and the second is for Holiday Village Mall.
