Snow is moving into North Central Montana.

Ahead of the next round of winter weather, the National Weather Service in Great Falls has issued both a Winter Weather Advisory and a Winter Storm Warning.

The Winter Storm Warning is in effect for areas along the divide and near the Little Belt Mountains above 5,000 feet.

This means Great Falls and Helena are not under the warning, and little to no snow is expected in either city.

We do expect heavy mountain snow. Totals of up to 24 inches will be possible near Marias Pass, up to 18 inches for Kings Hill Pass, up to 8 inches for Rogers Pass, and up to 5 inches for Macdonald pass.

Mountain snow is expected to continue into Tuesday night, and even as late as Wednesday morning.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for lower elevations north and east of Great Falls.

A band of snow is beginning to form in the area already Monday afternoon, and is expect to last into the evening, and redevelop on Tuesday, before exiting Tuesday night.

The heavy band of snow has the potential to drop 3 to 5 inches of snow along a line from Sunburst to Roy.

The location of this heavier snow and may still shift slightly, but it looks to stay to the north and east of Great Falls.
