Stronger wind will begin to take over the state today.
The brisk down sloping winds will drive temperatures to the high 40s and low 50s this afternoon.
Some snow is likely in the mountains, primary in Northwestern Montana and west of the Continental Divide.
The wind will continue to ramp up as Wednesday rolls around.
Much of Montana will be under a high wind watch tomorrow with areas along the Rocky Mountain Front under a High Wind Warning.
Sustained wind around 30 to 40 mph is likely with isolated gusts reaching 90 mph.
As per usual the strongest wind gusts are expected along the northern portions of the Rocky Mountain Front.
One of the driving forces behind the wind on Wednesday is a cold front.
Not only will this front ramp up the wind it will also kick off mountain snow and rain throughout Central Montana.
The best chances for rain will be between 5am and 11am, primarily south of Great Falls.
The strong wind will burn up most of the moisture east of the divide as it pushes through the state.
Following this front daytime high temperatures will trend in the low 40s through the weekend.
Although still breezy, the later half of the work week is shaping up to less gusty.
Forecast models are hinting at a few possible flurries on Sunday.
