Strong down sloping wind will help to increase temperatures and initiate snowmelt throughout Central Montana.
A High Wind Warning is in effect for the Northern Rocky Mountain Front, Eastern Glacier and Southern Rocky Mountain Front.
Wing gusts in this area are expected to exceed 60 mph throughout the day.
Poor travel can be expected today because of strong cross winds and blowing and drifting snow.
Due to the blowing and drifting snow, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through noon today.
The wind will help to boost the air temperatures today with most areas reaching the low 40s this afternoon.
Although the actual air temperature will be a bit warmer, it will feel cooler than it actually is because of the wind chill.
The strong wind is expected to stick with us through Thursday; however today is shaping up to be the windiest.
Temperatures will continue to climb as the week plays out and is on track to reach the early 50s by Thursday.
A weak cold front is on track to pass through the state Friday night.
This passing front will likely kick off a few mountain flurries and a few spotty showers in the plains.
At this point it does not appear to be anything of concern, however travel through the mountains may be a bit strained early Saturday.
Even stronger high pressure is on track to move inland on Sunday.
This pressure system will continue to drive temperatures through the first portion of next week.
Forecast models are suggesting that we'll reach the low 60s early next week.
