An afternoon cold front will help to instigate stronger storms throughout Montana on Thursday.
Temperatures will remain hot reaching the low 90s in Central Montana and the high 90s in the Eastern Plains.
Due to the hot temperatures and wind related to these passing storms, a Fire Weather Warning will remain in effect today.
Occasional gusts around 20 to 30 mph are likely this afternoon, most of which will be associated with passing thunderstorms.
Wind remains the main concern with today's storms although periods of heavy rain and small hail are possible.
Forecast models are anticipating that this front will begins to impact Great Falls and Helena around the middle of this afternoon.
Storms will amplify and grow in strength as they track through Central Montana this evening.
The stronger thunderstorms are expected to wrap up around midnight in Northeastern Montana.
High pressure will rebuild following the passage of this front.
This ridge of high pressure will allow for temperatures to remain in the high 80 and low 90s through the weekend.
Monday is also trending hot with highs expected in the low 90s.
Forecast models are suggesting that an area of low pressure will begin to break down this ridge on Tuesday.
If this system plays out as expected, temperatures will fall to the mid 80s and remain more on track with average through Wednesday.
