Severe storms will be widespread, a brief tornado cannot be ruled out

Today is setting up to be one of the most active days we’ve seen so far this season.

With strong upper level wind, ample moisture and heat, storms that do develop will become very strong quickly.

Storms develop around 1-2 pm across the southwest- near Helena.

They will track through North-Central Montana around 3-4 pm and move across the Hi-Line through late afternoon and into early evening.

Widespread severe storms are likely.

Hazards include: up to baseball sized hail, heavy downpours, gusts of 80+ MPH, and frequent lightning.

We also cannot rule out a brief tornado through North-Central and Northeast Montana later this afternoon.

Now like yesterday, not everyone will see rain today, but- again- storms that do develop have enough energy to become very strong, very quickly.

Keep up-to-date with us on air and online throughout this active weather day.
