Flooding concerns will grow as we head into next week due to this week’s weather conditions.

This week is a setup for fully saturated ground, which means the soil will almost reach its capacity for holding water.

We expect about a half-inch to an inch of rain in north-central and eastern Montana throughout the weekend.

The Sun River flooded in June of 2018.

While river levels may rise, they will not hit flood stages in our area or have any flooding impacts this week.

As one low pressure system brings rain through the weekend, another system moves in and will bring additional rain next week.

While models are still split on the exact amounts of additional rainfall, totals could be another 2-4 inches.

The extra rain will fall on fully saturated ground, which causes the flooding concerns.

We will be on flood watch as we head into next week with the additional rainfall on the way.

The STORMTracker Weather Team will keep you updated on-air and online.
