Heavy mountain snow

Posted
and last updated

Snow is moving through the area, and will continue to do so off and on through Sunday.

Away from high terrain, accumulations will be minor, mainly between 1 to 3 inches. At higher elevations, snow totals will approach half a foot, with up to a foot of snow possible in the Little Belts.

Winds will be strong Saturday, gusting over 30 miles per hour, and blowing and drifting snow is likely. Travel will be difficult on roads through and adjacent to high terrain.

Portions of US 87 and US 89 through and around the Little Belts look to be especially difficult Friday night through Sunday.

The weekend also looks cool overall, with highs in the 30s.

In addition, there is a Winter Weather Advisory for the following counties: Hill, Chouteau, and Fergus.

* WHAT…Snow expected. Total snow accumulations up to 3 inches, with accumulations of 3 to 9 inches expected along and near the mountains. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph will cause areas of
blowing snow.

* WHEN…From 8 PM this evening to 11 PM MST Saturday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Travel could be very difficult. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility.
A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Expect snow covered roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.
