A cold front will move through Montana on Thursday, bringing big changes to our weather.

For one, it will be quite a bit cooler.

Highs will still near 60 around and south of Helena, but most of North central Montana will see highs in the 40s and 50s.

As the cold front pushes through it will also bring rain and Mountain snow.

For that reason, the National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for areas above 6,000 feet along the Rocky Mountain Front.

From the NWS:

The National Weather Service in Great Falls has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for areas along the Rocky Mountain Front. The NWS says that a cold front will bring accumulating snow to portions of the Northern and Southern Rocky Mountain Front from Thursday morning through Friday morning. Snow accumulation of up to three inches can be expected above 6,000 feet across these areas, which will impact backcountry recreation and some higher elevation roads. If you are planning to recreate in the backcountry, plan on slippery trail conditions. Drivers traveling above 6,000 feet should plan on the possibility of some slick roads.

* WHAT…Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of up to three inches are expected.

* WHERE…Northern Rocky Mountain Front and Southern Rocky Mountain Front above 6000 feet.

* WHEN…From 9 AM Thursday to 9 AM MDT Friday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Snow will impact backcountry recreation. Plan on slippery trail conditions and the potential for some slick roadways. Expect reduced visibilities at times. A Winter Weather Advisory for wet snow means periods of wet snow will cause primarily travel difficulties and impacts to outdoor recreation. Expect some snow covered roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving. The latest road conditions for the state you are calling from can be obtained by calling 5 1 1.
