GREAT FALLS — Clark & Lewie's restaurant in Great Falls has made it their mission to feed the need of kids in the community.
Several weeks ago, Clark & Lewie's partnered up with General Distributing Company in Great Falls to provide hungry children with sack lunches free of charge. The meals include items like chips, a cookie, apple sauce, and a different sandwich every day.
Since the giveaways began, the meals have really taken off, with an average of 50 to 70 kids stopping by every day to pick up lunch.
Donald Johnson, Food and Beverage Manager of the O'Haire Motor Inn where Clark & Lewie's is located, said when he saw the community support him when the restaurant was hit hard by COVID-19 restrictions, he knew he had to do something to give back.
“Being shut to takeout only, we’re pretty blessed with the community...without the community none of us would be open...the community has stepped up to help us...just like sack lunches is giving back to the community,” Meyers said.
Johnson said seeing the joy it brings the kids makes it worth it. “Just to see the kid smile is the most important thing. Just about every kid that comes in to get their own meal always grabs the bag and smiles on their way out the door. And to me, that’s what it’s about,” Johnson said.
Johnson added that he is grateful for donations from those who want to keep these lunch giveaways going. “We get people that drop off donation checks to help with the sack lunches which will help us keep it going as long as we can...and it’s greatly appreciated,” Johnson said.
Lunches are served Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. until lunches run out. Clark & Lewie’s is located at 17 7th Street South.Click here to visit the Facebook page.
