(UPDATE, 12:30 p.m.) Yellowstone County Coroner Cliff Mahoney says one man died in the crash. Donald C. Nimmick, 74, was the pilot killed.

Nimmick was from Oakpoint, Tex. and on his way to the Three Forks, according to Mahoney. An autopsy is planned for Monday.

There were no other passengers in the plane. It's still unclear exactly how the crash happened. We'll update you when we learn more.



(First report, 10/30/20) A small plane crashed just north of the Billings Logan International Airport on Friday night.

The airport's control tower lost contact with the plane around 7 p.m., and emergency crews located the plane around 8:30 p.m.

There is no word yet on the condition of the pilot or if there were other people in plane. It's unclear exactly how the crash happened.
