Obituary: Barry N. Fields

Barry Norman Fields, 80, of Great Falls, passed away on May 24, 2019.  A Celebration of Life will be held this Thursday, May 30th at 2:00 PM at the Elks Lodge #214, 500 1st Ave. S., Great Falls.

Born January 11, 1939 in Brooklyn, NY to Maxwell B. and Claire B. Linke Fields, Barry grew up in Brooklyn, graduating from the Brooklyn Technical High School in June 1955.

He joined the U.S. Air Force and while stationed at Malmstrom AFB in Great Falls he met and married Nila Guill December 27, 1967. They were blessed with two sons, Steven M. and Jeffrey C. Fields. After 38 years of marriage, they divorced in August of 2005.

Barry was fortunate enough to find love again in the form of Gwen Tigart. They met in November of 2006 and were inseparable companions until his death.

As a member of the military, the family moved regularly, from Great Falls, where he was a Technical Intelligence Engineer and Missile Combat Crew Commander 564th Squadron; to Omaha, NB at SAC Headquarters in Intelligence; to New Milford, CT as a Technical Engineer, then Long Island, NY working on the weaponry system in the F14 Tomcat USAF Jets.

He worked with Hughes Aircraft and General Motors on government proposals in El Segundo, CA, performing the same job with Shipley and Associates in Salt Lake City, UT.

Beyond the military, Barry loved golfing, fishing, bowling, watching football, hockey (even playing pro hockey for a short time in Albuquerque).

He liked to listen to classical music and enjoyed eating shrimp and sushi and drinking his Dr. Pepper. He was a member of the Elks Club #214. He was very proud of his 89 Porsche, proud of the fact he had owned a Porsche his whole life.
