Caroline Cecile (DeCelles) Tyler, of Great Falls, Montana, returned to the warm embrace of her loving God on February 7, 2019, at the age of 70.

Caroline was born to Matthew and Doris (Doney) DeCelles on August 3, 1948 in Harlem, Montana. She grew up as “Booboos” in Hays on the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation with her brothers, Roderick (Glenice), Theodore (Peggy), Harvey, Matthew August, and Dallas (Charlene); and sisters Mary, Doris (Frank), Thelma (Bill), and Nancy. She attended St. Paul’s Mission and was taught by various Catholic Priests and Nuns.

She lived an abundant life on her own terms. She eloped with James D. Tyler to Deadwood, South Dakota. They returned to Malta, Montana, to work the Tyler family farm and have 3 children James, Sherry, and Clint. Caroline went to work at the Malta Nursing Home as a cook and a CNA.

James and Caroline brought their family to Great Falls and had two more daughters, Renee and Alee. Doris, her mother, moved in to help raise the younger daughters while Caroline attended the University of Great Falls, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology, Cum Laude.

Caroline and James built a house on the west side that was always open to family and friends. Relatives on the road always had a comfortable bed, a homemade meal and a night of storytelling. Most family gatherings and feeds were held at the Tyler House.

For several years Caroline was the cook at the Cascade County Jail and later became a juvenile probation officer.

Caroline was a devout Catholic. She attended Mass regularly and said her Rosary daily. She reveled in Midnight Mass at Christmas, remembering the tradition and incense from her youth. She drew strength and solace from her unwavering faith.

She was happiest with her family, especially her grandchildren Daniel Osborne, John Travis Osborne, Tanner Osborne, Kaden Ro and Kiley Ro; great grandchildren Madison Osborne, Zoey Osborne, and Christian Osborne. She doted over them and they brought her the most joy in her life.

She also enjoyed reading, gardening, fishing and playing cards. She was a disciplined crossword fanatic.
