Posted

Alice Margaret (Pfeifle) Irion, 97, was called to her heavenly home on December 19, 2018.  Alice was a resident of Sweet Memorial Nursing Home in Chinook at the time of her death.

Alice was born September 13, 1921 south of Power, Montana. She was baptized on November 7, 1921 at Zion Lutheran Church in Power. She attended Power Public School through the fifth grade.  Alice often said that her first year in school was sad as she only spoke German.

When she was thirteen, the family moved to a new farm 13.5 miles northeast of Power. The family supported  themselves through farming and the marketing of cream and eggs. She attended the one room Pleasant Ridge Country School, where she received her elementary school diploma on June 9, 1937.

In the mid 1930’s Alice met Ernest Irion. Following his discharge on October 30, 1945 from serving in the Medical Corps in the European theatre during World War II, they were married on December 30, 1945.

In the spring of 1948, they purchased two lots on the northside of Great Falls where they began building their home. They lived in the basement for seven years while building the main floor as money and time permitted.  Following Ernest’s death in 1966, Alice continued to live in this home full time as she raised their daughter.

Alice was self employed doing cleaning jobs for various families and Trinity Lutheran Church. She enjoyed gardening, needlework and crafts. Alice entered in the Great Falls Fair for over 50 years.

Alice volunteered with Scouting, Camp Fire Girls, and 4-H, and was a member of Extension Homemakers. She was active in her church, including teaching Sunday School for over 50 years. In her 70’s, she was still teaching Bible Story time for Wee Disciples Preschool.
