Kathleen Terry Bates was born April 28, 1947 in Staffordshire, England, to George and Nora Ravensdale.
She was raised in her home town of Newcastle-Under-Lyme until she moved to London in her late teens.
While living and working in London, Kathy started writing to a young American airman based in Vietnam; their friendship flourished and he eventually was stationed in England.
The rest of the story is history as people would say, on December 1, 1973 she married Gary Bates and they ended up having a loving marriage of 45 years.
Kathy was a homemaker with very talented sewing skills, especially in cross-stitch and Hardanger embroidery.
Later she went on to become a very accomplished quilter and she was very active in the local quilting guild.
Quilting introduced her to many good friends both in Montana and Alaska.
