Obituary: James Jay Horne

James Jay Horne, 87, died peacefully Monday, October 29, 2018

Jay and his twin, Ray were born on December 28, 1930 to Warren and Irma Horne in Townsend, MT. He was one of 11 children.

He attended schools in Townsend and White Sulphur Springs. Jay was operating a sheep ranch when he met the love of his life, Marion. They were married on June 5, 1955. They had celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary this past June. They were blessed with six children.

Jay was drafted into the Army in November of 1955 and served until 1961. After he left the Army he worked varies jobs. He and Marion moved to Great Falls in May of 1969. He worked for Weissmans until retirement in 1995. Then worked part time for the Davison Ranch until he was injured in 1998. 

Jay’s greatest joy began in 1969 when he started preaching at the Great Falls Rescue Mission. He was able to continue to preach up until the last few years. He was ordained as a Lay Minister in 1973.

He was a longtime member of First Southern Baptist Church which he held many volunteer positions, which two of his favorites were the Children’s Church and the Bus Ministry. He has been a member of Crossroads Memorial Church the past several years. 

He always enjoyed outdoor activities with his family, which included hunting, fishing (his favorite), camping, riding horses and planting flowers. 

In his later years, Jay enjoyed doing woodwork. He enjoyed making his family and friends Christmas ornaments and decorations that we will cherish for many years.
