GREAT FALLS — As of Tuesday, June 30th, Montana’s 2020 Census self-response rate hovered around 55.4 percent, which is below the national average of 61.7 percent.
Over the coming months, the Census Bureau will continue to resume many of its activities in the state that were suspended from late March through May.
Starting in mid-July, census takers from six area census offices (one per Census Bureau region) will begin the operation of interviewing households that have not yet responded to the 2020 Census.
The Census Bureau estimates that for every Montanan that doesn’t get counted, the state loses about $20,000 in federal funding. Montana also has an opportunity to add a member to the U.S. House of Representatives with the 2020 Census.
