BILLINGS — Daniel Scheihing , the man being held in the Yellowstone County jail on a possible murder charge after allegedly killing his wife, was found dead in his jail cell on Friday.
Yellowstone County Sheriff Mike Linder said at approximately 5:15 a.m., while making routine security checks, a detention officer at the Yellowstone County Detention Center discovered the body of Scheihing, who was 70 years old.
Linder said in a news release that the detention officer called for assistance and immediately began CPR. Medical personnel responded to the jail and Scheihing was taken to a hospital.
CPR was continued at the hospital until the doctor pronounced his death.
Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office detectives are investigating the death. There is no evidence of foul play at the scene and the manner of death is suspected to be suicide.
An autopsy will be performed Friday and an inquest will be scheduled, which is standard practice whenever someone dies while in custody.
Because the investigation is ongoing, no further details are being released at this time, Linder said.
Scheihing was scheduled to appear Friday in Yellowstone County Justice Court for an initial court appearance on charges related to the death of his wife, 72-year-old Celia Scheihing.
