BOZEMAN — Bozeman's new Gallatin High School on Monday released its logo and mascot design for the Gallatin Raptors.
In a press release, Gallatin High School principal Erica Schnee said the raptor mascot was recommended to the School Board after community submissions and "several rounds of student, staff and community voting."
The Board approved the Raptor mascot in May.
Classic Ink of Bozeman was chosen to design the Raptors logo after a competitive selection process. The new logo is based on the dinosaur Deinonychus, discovered in Montana in the mid-1960s.
According to the press release, Classic Ink worked with students, staff, and community members to refine and finalize their designs.
A group of future Gallatin High School students was shown a draft of the mascot and were enthusiastic about the design, the release said.
Students from Bozeman High School's "Hawk TV" class are creating a "hype video" to reveal the mascot that will be sent to students who will attend Gallatin High School when it opens in Fall 2020.
