(UPDATE, AUGUST 29) A woman died in a crash on Tuesday after leading Garfield County Sheriff's deputies on a chase in a stolen vehicle.
According to the Montana Highway Patrol, the crash happened Tuesday at 8:18 p.m.
On Thursday, Garfield County Sheriff Clay Lammers identified the woman as Michaela Jackson of Miles City; she was 22 years old.
Lammers said the incident began when deputies were called to a home in Jordan for an altercation between two people. When authorities arrived, Jackson left the scene in a green Ford Explorer.
A press release on the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page states she first headed west on Highway 200.
She led the deputy on a short chase, made a U-turn, and began driving back toward Jordan.
According to the MHP, Jackson's SUV hit a pole at an abandoned gas station, but she continued to drive. The SUV then hit a delineator post, went off the road, and rolled along Highway 200 near mile marker 212, near Jordan.
Jackson was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the Explorer.
The press release states the car caught fire following the crash.
Jackson was taken to the Garfield County Health Center where she died.
Alcohol, drugs, and speed are all considered factors in the crash.
