GREAT FALLS — Road conditions across north-central Montana are bad - and getting worse as the snow intensifies.

The Montana Department of Transportation said at about 3:30 p.m. that I-15 from Vaughn to Brady is experiencing "severe" driving conditions, with blowing and drifting snow, and reduced visibility.

MDT also provided the following information:

  • S-219 Pendroy Road is CLOSED
  • US-89 from Choteau to Browning is CLOSED.

The following roads are SEVERE DRIVING DUE TO POOR VISIBILITY/BLOWING & DRIFTING:

  • US2 from East Glacier to Ethridge
  • US-89 North from Browning to Canada
  • S-464 Duck Lake Rd from Browning to junction with US89 North
  • S-213 Del Bonita Rd
  • There are multiple incidents on I-15 north of Shelby as well, including several slide-offs.

A very heavy band of snow developed along the Rocky Mountain Front Tuesday night, and has slowly shifted east through Wednesday. The band of snow, coupled with strong winds, has created blizzard conditions in Northern Lewis & Clark, Teton, Pondera, and Glacier County. A Blizzard Warning is in effect in those areas until 5 a.m. on Thursday.
