A 10-year-old boy from Florence died in a crash between Missoula and Lolo

MISSOULA — A 10-year-old boy from Florence has been identified as the person who died in a car crash between Missoula and Lolo on Highway 93.

The Montana Highway Patrol says the crash happened on Monday at about 11:30 a.m. near mile marker 87 in the "S" curves.

A southbound Mazda lost control and crossed into the northbound lane where it crashed into the back of a van. The Mazda then rotated before it was hit by another vehicle in the northbound lane.

The 10-year-old boy died at the scene, according to the MHP.

Two adults and two other children survived the crash; one of the adults was taken to a Missoula hospital, but the extent of that person's injuries has not been disclosed.

The names of those involved have not yet been released. The crash is still being investigated.



(UPDATE) Missoula County Sheriff/Coroner T.J. McDermott has identified the child who died as Brecken S. Beard; he said, "Our heart-felt condolences go out to the family during this very difficult time."
