STEVENSVILLE — The Stevensville Civic Club honored Casey Blanchard and Trooper Wade Palmer as citizens of the year at its annual awards ceremony on Wednesday afternoon.
Blanchard and Palmer were both shot on March 15 along with Shelley Hays and Julie Blanchard, Casey’s mother, who both died due to their injuries.
Blanchard and Palmer are still recovering. Blanchard is in Missoula while Palmer continues to recover with his family at his home in Stevensville.
Palmer's wife, Lindsey, accepted the award while Stevensville Mayor Brandon Dewey was on hand for the presentation.
He said he couldn't be more proud to be the mayor of a town that would honor both heroes.
"The way that our community rallies back behind those issues and celebrates those and brings a positivity to those is pretty special and I'm certainly honored to be a part of this community in the capacity that I am," Dewey said.
Blanchard and Palmer were both chosen by past winners of the award who Dewey said resoundingly chose the pair.
