Mission Valley wildfire on Flathead Reservation tops 5,000 acres

RONAN – The lightning-caused Moss Ranch Fire burning southwest of Ronan has grown to 5,310 acres and was 40% contained as of Sunday morning.

The blaze — which is being managed by a local Type 3 Incident Management Team — continues to burn in grass and timber along a steep, rocky, rugged terrain.

No structures or other infrastructure are threatened at this time and there no evacuation notices have been issued.

Firefighters have been patrolling the fire’s perimeter and will focus Sunday on securing all control lines 200 feet in from the perimeter.

There are 170 people assigned to the fire as well as several engines a helicopter and three aircraft.

The Nenemay Road, FB-1000 and FB-4000 Road are closed until further notice.
