The Bannack Fire, which is burning south of Bannack in Beaverhead County, has jumped to 151 acres.
The lightning-caused fire was detected Tuesday around 2:40 p.m.
There are about 60 personnel assigned to the blaze, which is burning in grass, sagebrush, and timber. As of Wednesday afternoon, the fire was 20 percent contained.
Firefighters were working to establish a containment line along the northern edge of the fire, as well as mopping up hot spots within the fire’s perimeter, according to the Dillon Interagency Dispatch Center.
The Dispatch Center also gave updates on other small fires in the area:
- The Lima Volunteer Fire Department has contained a small fire south of Clark Canyon Reservoir near the Bible Camp.
- Two fires were found in the Cabin Creek area southeast of Dillon in the Blacktail area.
- One fire was 1/10 of an acre and has been contained. The other fire was one acre.
- Crews will continue to work to contain and control these two small fires Wednesday.
The Dillon Interagency Dispatch Center reminded people to be careful with all fires and to extinguish campfires completely. They also advised keeping motorized vehicles on roads and trails.
