MISSOULA — Wildlife biologists reported Friday there was at least one black bear looking for food in the Rattlesnake neighborhood in Missoula.
According to officials with Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP), bears were accessing garbage in the Rattlesnake.
They urged residents to contain all attractants in a bear-resistant manner and to not put garbage out until the morning of pick up. Animal Control patrolled the area for garbage ordinance violations.
FWP asks residents to carry bear spray and know how to use it when recreating in bear country.
FWP has also reported that bears are getting into garbage in the Potomac, Bitterroot, Mill Creek, Lolo and Grant Creek areas.
It is critical residents heed these suggestions, officials urge, to prevent bear encounters.
