GLACIER NATIONAL PARK – A new section of Going-to-the-Sun Road is open after weeks of snow clearing efforts.

Glacier National Park spokeswoman Lauren Alley said the famed road is now open from the Avalanche Creek gate on the west side and from St. Mary to Rising Sun on the east side.

Alley noted the section between Rising Run, Avalanche and Logan Pass are still closed. Due to a pavement preservation project, the earliest opening date for the full length of Going-to-the-Sun Road will be June 22.

Several other roads in Glacier National Park are also opening to the public. You can click here to view the latest road status report.

The hiker and biker closure on the west side of the park is located at Packers Roost, 11 miles past the vehicle closure. On the east side, the hiker-biker closure is at Dead HorsePoint, two miles past the vehicle closure.
