GREAT FALLS — The Special Olympics Montana State Summer Games are coming to Great Falls late this month, and volunteers are needed.

More than 1,000 athletes are expected to compete in 11 different events, between May 14 and 17, at different venues throughout the Electric City.

Special Olympics of Montana (SOMT) needs about 1,700 volunteers to serve in various capacities, including referees, timers and escorts.

Organizers say helping out is an unforgettable experience.

Kelley Aline, SOMT volunteer co-director, told MTN, “When you volunteer, and you spend time with the athletes, you get a perspective in life, and you get to be around other people who are giving their time, giving monetarily […] it’s just one of the best feelings you can have.”

“Those athletes are […] the light of our society, so it’s great to be around them,” Aline added.
