Federal investigators in Wolf Point reviewing allegations of discrimination

Posted

Investigators with the Department of Education are in Wolf Point this week looking into allegations of discrimination.

According to the American Civil Liberties Union of Montana, the investigators are from the department’s Office of Civil Rights.

They will speak with students and parents about their experiences with the Wolf Point School District.

The investigation followed a complaint filed in 2017 by Melina Healey and the ACLU of Montana.

According to the complaint, the discrimination is against children from the Assiniboine and Sioux Tribes.

The complaint states many native students have left school entirely due to discrimination.

The Office of Civil Rights is expected to issue its final report in the summer or fall of 2019.
