BILLINGS – It was another good year for the Red Lodge Mountain Ski Resort.
The mountain received another 14 inches of snow in the last week, making for good conditions for the last couple weekends of the ski season.
“We’ve had a very good season,” said Spencer Weimar, the guest service and marking director at the mountain. “We started out with really good snow so that really helps out… We started out well and, as you can see out now, it looks like we’re going to end well.”
Starting off with good snow saved the mountain from a miserable cold spell. Weimar said the resort took a hit during February when temperatures were struggling to reach zero.
“It was hard to get people to come up,” said Weimar. “Even though a lot of days we were in inversion. One of the very first cold days we were 35 degrees at the top of the mountain even though it was -10 in town. So sometimes this is the escape, its just a matter of getting you to leave your house to come ski.”
Thanks to strong months before and after February, the resort is looking to finish about 2% up from last year, and with new snow on the ground, it is not over yet.
The mountain will be open to skiers this weekend (April 13-14) and next weekend (April 20-21) before closing for the summer.
Please be advised that RLM will not open April 20 until 12:30 p.m. because the road to the mountain will be closed in the morning for the sixth annual Turn, Burn and Pedal race which begins at the Midway Lodge and finishes in town. Half-day rates will apply.
