BOZEMAN – On Saturday, Montana State University (MSU) hosted 300 junior high girls from around the state to teach them about careers in science, technology, engineering, and math.
The event, “Expanding Your Horizons,” had over 30 different workshop groups where kids could use their imagination to build architecture out of blocks or study forest fires.
The kids did this by using matches at different angles to see how that affects how fire burns.
By doing these hands-on activities, MSU hopes to encourage girls to go into STEM-related fields.
Suzi Taylor, MSU academic technology and outreach coordinator, said, “If you live in a small town, you don’t always know what is possible, so it is really cool to have them here and show them all the possibilities.”
