As flooding continues to impact many regions of Montana, the James Kipp Recreation Area is no exception with a record crest along the Missouri River being recorded.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the Missouri River gauge at Landusky, which is 22 miles north of the James Kipp Recreation Area, measured over 36 feet, breaking its previous record crest.

Fergus County Disaster and Emergency Services reported the recreation area is under as much as 10 feet of water due to an ice jam.

The Upper Missouri River Breaks National Monument has closed the recreation area until further notice.

The James Kipp Recreation Area is located where Highway 191 crosses the Missouri River about 70 miles south of Malta and 64 miles northeast of Lewistown.

Flooding from ice jams and snow melt is expected to continue. Parts of the Milk River, the Poplar River, and now the Missouri River have hit major flood stages in the past few days.
