While spring is on its way, firefighters in Bozeman were still on winter watch Monday night.

Bozeman Fire responded to the Valley West subdivision around 9:15 p.m. for a report of a dog stuck in a pond after falling through thin ice. The dog was unable to move.

The crew was prepared for an ice rescue and one firefighter entered the partially frozen pond and within about two minutes, Mingus the dog was moved safely to shore.

Bozeman Fire wants to remind the public that bodies of water are no longer frozen enough to support human or pet weight. They advise calling 911 at the first sign of a problem as seconds can save lives.
