BOZEMAN — On this St. Patrick’s Day, Montana State University, among other schools, is encouraging its students to celebrate safely.

While many students leave campus, some do stay, and because the university does not have an extensive history of St. Patrick’s Day traditions, school officials hope their students stay safe.

“We hope, of course, that our students who stay around town and choose to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day do so in a safe and responsible manner,” said Michael Becker, MSU spokesman. “With everybody out of town, on Spring Break, we of course hope they have a very restful and safe holiday.”

MSU officials say campus police stay vigilant during the holiday even though many students are on vacation.
