While the weather may have improved across north-central Montana, road conditions are deteriorating due to high winds.

The Montana Department of Transportation has issued severe driving conditions alerts for roads around Browning including Highway 2, Secondary Highway 464, and parts of Highway 89.

Highway 89 from Browning south to the junction with Highway 44 (the Valier road) is closed at this time. MDT reports high winds in the area with blocked lanes.

There are no out-of-town buses running in Browning and class started one hour late, according to Browning Public Schools. While the Blackfeet Early Childhood Center had school at its normal hours, the bus did not run due to the driving conditions. De La Salle Blackfeet School started one hour late Monday. Out-of-town employees at Blackfeet Community College were excused from work and the college opened at 9 a.m.

Reduced visibility is expected across much of the Rocky Mountain Front and a High Wind Advisory goes into effect in that region at 12 p.m. until 6 a.m. Tuesday.

The roads around Great Falls including Interstate 15 and Highways 87, 89, and 200 have numerous areas of high winds and reduced visibility.

While MDT reports the roads around Great Falls are dry/mostly dry, blowing and drifting snow could create whiteout conditions and drivers are advised to use caution.
