March’s first snowstorm impacts north-central Montana’s roads

(UPDATE, 11:30 a.m.) A severe driving conditions alert has been issued for Interstate 15 from Ulm through Great Falls to Dutton. Drivers are advised to travel with caution.


(1st Report, 10:30 a.m.) Another snow storm has helped usher in the month of March and while most roads around Great Falls are reportedly dry or mostly dry, neighbors to the north are seeing different conditions.

The Montana Department of Transportation has reported severe driving conditions and reduced visibility on Secondary Highway 219 between Pendroy and Conrad. There is scattered lane blockage due to blowing and drifting snow.

Interstate 15 from Great Falls to just outside of Brady is dry, however, scattered snow and ice has been reported from Brady to Conrad. Conrad to just past the Valier/Highway 44 turnoff is snow-covered.

Highway 89 along the Rocky Mountain Front from Browning to Choteau has scattered snow and ice with areas of snow-cover.

Highway 2 from Browning to Chinook has scattered snow and ice or has snow-cover.

Reduced visibility and blowing and drifting snow is impacting several areas along Highways 89, 87, 200, and 2 and I-15. There are also several areas of fog.

As of 10:15 a.m., the Montana Highway Patrol has only reported a couple of crashes including a slideoff in Pondera County and a crash in Chouteau County.
