As February ushers in more winter weather, roads will be impacted.
Snow plow drivers will work to remove snow from Montana’s highways as another storm arrives, but officials want to remind drivers to give road crews some space.
Cascade County Public Works officials told MTN News county snow plow drivers have 165 miles of asphalt to cover with six plows.
In November, the Montana Department of Transportation reported having almost 600 plow trucks and 22 tow plows on call for the winter.
Each year, MDT maintains 25,000 miles of lane roads and plows four million miles of highway.
On Sunday, February 17, a crash involving a snow plow and semi-truck occurred near Terry. MDT reported there were no serious injuries.
MDT officials said there have been a total of 16 MDT snow plow hits.
Cascade County Public Works offered some advice to drivers:
- Stay five car lengths behind a plow
- Do not pass a plow
- Be patient
- Slow down
A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for north-central Montana until 11 a.m.
Counties under the advisory include Cascade, Chouteau, Toole, Liberty, Pondera, Fergus, Glacier, Teton, Lewis and Clark, Judith Basin, Jefferson, Broadwater, and Meagher.
The heaviest snow is expected in and south of Great Falls where totals could reach 2 to 4 inches.
