The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported flu activity is now widespread in 48 states — as well as in Puerto Rico.
The highest rate of hospitalizations was for people age 65 and older.
The CDC announced last week that the flu vaccine has been about 47 percent effective so far this season, which is better than last year.
The latest flu report from the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) showed more than 1,000 new cases of the flu in the Treasure State – the largest jump in cases this season.
There have been 3,279 confirmed flu cases in Montana so far this season, resulting in 190 hospitalizations and three deaths.
Despite the large number of new cases in the latest reporting period, there have been no new outbreaks reported.
Cascade, Missoula, Ravalli, and Yellowstone counties have all reported more than 300 cases this season. Lewis and Clark County has seen 230 reported cases.
