Cascade Public Schools are talking about shaking up the school week and they are looking for community feedback.
Superintendent Rick Miller said the idea of a modified school schedule came from parents interested in a four-day school week.
Options include having a half day each week, a half day each month, or moving to a four-day week.
A community meeting was held earlier in the school year and a second round of meetings begin Monday.
Miller said a modified week could give students more time with family, time to help on the farm, and overall better moral.
Concerns over an extra day or half-day off include feeding students who depend on school meals and managing childcare options for working parents.
Half days or four day weeks would also allow more time for professional development of school staff.
The process is still in the early stages and Miller said they are not rushing into anything.
“We’re going to work together and do what’s best for our students, our parents, our school and our community it’s not going to be one group making the decision, we’re going to come together and make the decision together,” explains Miller.
Meetings will be held at the school at 6 p.m. Monday, and 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tuesday. The information session is being held at several times to ensure most people are able to make it to one.
