Montana State Parks has announced that no alcoholic beverages of any kind will be allowed in Sluice Boxes State Park beginning March 1, 2019.

Montana State Parks has initiated the ban to reduce the risk of accidents due to intoxication and decrease the amount of alcohol-related litter left in the backcountry, according to Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP).

The ban has the support of FWP and local law enforcement.

In a Facebook post, Regional Park Manager John Taillie stated officials believe the overall experience at Sluice Boxes State Park will improve.

“It will also lower the risk of accidents, injury, and the need for search and rescue efforts, which have increased over the past few years,” he said.

The alcohol ban will be strictly enforced by FWP.

Sluice Boxes State Park is located along Evans Riceville Road near Belt. It is open all year and attractions include the remains of mines, a railroad, and historic cabins that line Belt Creek.
