(UPDATE, 12:10 p.m.) An initial visual search of Sentinel High School in Missoula is complete and students are now being dismissed for a more comprehensive search, according to Missoula County Public Schools.
Missoula Police Department staff will direct traffic around the school to maintain safety.
(1st Report, 9:32 a.m.) Sentinel High School in Missoula is locked down after some gun ammunition was found on Monday morning.
School officials have notified parents that the school is locked down and nobody is allowed into or out of the building.
Missoula County Public Schools reported a loaded ammunition magazine “fitting a handgun” was found on the floor in a hallway.
The ammunition was turned into the office and an investigation into identifying the source of the ammunition and looking for a possible weapon has started.
The main school doors will be locked and students will not be dismissed until an “all clear” is issued by law enforcement.
MCPS will notify parents by email, text, and phone during the lockdown.
CORRECTION: The initial article stated an “ammunition clip” was found, however, Missoula County Public Schools released a press release confirming it was a magazine.
