Paychecks were supposed to go out today for thousands of furloughed federal employees affected by the government shutdown.

But they won’t. So Montana companies continue to step up to help customers get through a hard time.

NorthWestern Energy announced Friday a program to help customers who are impacted by the shutdown get through the winter months.

Anyone struggling to pay their utility bill is asked to call NorthWestern Energy’s customer service representatives in Montana or 800-245-6977 in South Dakota and Nebraska to discuss payment options and assistance programs.

“We appreciate the work our public employees do for our communities and this nation and want to do our part to lessen the stress that this situation creates for federal employees and their families,” said NorthWestern Energy Director Revenue Cycle Lori St. Aubin.

NorthWestern representatives say they encourage customers who have been impacted to reach out for options.
