The Montana Historical Society is looking to connect through social media with those who are interested in learning more about the state’s history and discussing it.
They’ve started a Facebook group called Revisiting Montana 1889.
Throughout the year, people can read Ken Egan’s book, ‘Montana 1889: Indians, Cowboys and Miners in the Year of Statehood.’
Each month, the author will ask questions and engage with readers on a chapter in the book, which are laid out in months.
Historical Society Photo Archives Manager Jeff Malcolmson said this is the first time they’ve tried a Facebook book club and they’re excited to connect with people.
“You can read one month at a time at a time if you want, or you can read the whole book and go along with us and delve into it,” said Malcolmson. “(Facebook) can be a useful tool and a beneficial one, we hope. One of those ways is to bring people together over long distances, that’s just a basic thing, and that’s what we have to deal with in Montana and we still want to be able to talk about our history and talk about the stories that are there and what unites us as a state.”

An introductory event will be held on Tuesday, January 15 at 3:30 p.m. at the Historical Society auditorium with author Ken Egan. The event will be live streamed on Facebook and YouTube.
