Poplar man dies in car crash

(BILLINGS) A 49-year-old Poplar man died following a car crash on Thursday afternoon.

According to the Montana Highway Patrol, the man was driving westd when his Chevy Impala went off the right side of the road.

He then hit a post, then a culvert pipe, and his car came to a stop about 60 feet from the pipe.

He was taken to Glendive Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

It is unclear what caused the man to drift off the road. MHP reports bare and dry road conditions.

Alcohol is suspected as a factor in the crash; the man was not wearing a seat belt.

The name of the man has not yet been released; we will update you if we get more information.
