KRTV has received several reports of a large law-enforcement presence at or near the public school in Ulm.

Message to KRTV: “is there any idea what’s going on at the ulm elementary School? Road is blocked with heavy MHP presence”

Message to KRTV: “Ulm school on lockdown, heavy presence of county sheriff”

We do not yet know what has caused the response from officers.

We have not received any reports of gunshots fired, nor any word at this point of any armed suspects.

KRTV reporter Joe Huisinga is at the scene, and says that students are being released from school at this time.

We will update you as we get more information.

(UPDATE, 1:13 p.m.) The Cascade County Sheriff’s Office says that there is no threat.

The incident was sparked by miscommunication generated by a rumor that someone was going to “shoot up” the school.

The Sheriff’s Office responded with a “heavy and immediate” response because they take all threats of violence seriously.

They have since determined that there was no actual threat made.

The school implemented lockdown procedures, and then transitioned to “shelter in place,” and are now allowing parents to pick up their children.

A spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office stressed that anyone who believes that there is a credible threat at any time or in any situation should call them or 911 immediately.

(UPDATE, 3:51 p.m.) Ulm Public Schools posted this message to its Facebook page:

To our dear Ulm parents and community: Today a threat was reported involving the Ulm School. Law enforcement informed us to go into lockdown, in which the staff and students did swiftly and immediately. Law enforcement was on site, and investigated the threat. The threat was found not to be credible. We want to sincerely thank parents for acting quickly in order to pick up students. We have been assured it is safe to resume school tomorrow.
