Child hit by vehicle west of Missoula

The Montana Highway Patrol says that a 6-year old girl was hit by a vehicle west of Missoula on Tuesday.

According to the MHP, the child has been airlifted for treatment of her injuries.

The MHP says that it happened at about 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday on Kona Ranch Road at Sandalwood Court when the child attempted to cross Kona Ranch Road and was hit by a vehicle; it is believed that the girl was crossing the road to get to her bus stop.

The bus was approaching the stop but had not yet activated any of the warning or stop lights.

The vehicle slowed down and attempted to swerve but was unable to avoid hitting the child.

The crash occurred during sunrise and the light levels were still rising, according to the MHP.

The driver was not injured in the crash.

The MHP is continuing to investigate; we will update you if we get more information.
