MISSOULA – A 26-year-old Missoula man accused of killing a 22-year-old University of Montana graduate while driving under the influence will be released to a chemical dependency treatment program in Billings when an opening becomes available.
Daniel Grady is accused of striking and killing Rebecca Romero in a hit-and-run crash that occurred on June 17 near Lowell School.
Grady will be monitored by pre-trial supervision and is still waiting for a bed to become available at Rimrock Treatment Center in Billings.
Once Grady has been accepted to the program, he will be released to pretrial supervision and transported by officers.
If transport officers are unavailable, Grady may be transported by either his father or sister, according to an order signed by Judge Leslie Halligan. Halligan said that scenario is unlikely.
Grady was subjected to a blood test to determine if he was under the influence of any drugs or alcohol at the time of the accident. He tested positive for valium, cocaine, and marijuana.
The test did not show any alcohol in his system because it was taken seven hours after the crash, but evidence collected from a police investigation shows Grady drinking downtown at several bars before the incident.
Grady is expected in court Wednesday and is still in Missoula County Detention facility until there is an opening at Rimrock.
