The Rosebud County Sheriff's Office says that two people died and three were injured in a collision involving a car and a school bus on Thursday.
The crash happened on Highway 212 near mile marker 51 between Ashland and Lame Deer. The three people on the bus, said to be the driver, a bus aide, and a student, were taken from the scene with minor injuries.
The two people in the car died at the scene, according to the Sheriff's Office; their names have not yet been released, and officers are working with officials in another county to notify the next of kin.
There is no word yet on the cause of the crash, but road conditions were extremely slick at the time.
Rosebud County Sheriff Allen Fulton says the school bus is from Busby.
Agencies that responded were Ashland QRU, Ashland Fire, BIA, Lame Deer Ambulance, Lame Deer DES, Montana Department of Transportation, Montana Highway Patrol, Montana Motor Carrier Service, Rosebud County Sheriff's Office and Rosebud County Coroner.
(1st REPORT, 9:30 a.m.) Three people, including a student, were injured Thursday morning when a school bus was involved in what is called a "serious" crash on Highway 212 between Ashland and Lame Deer.
According to a Facebook post by the Rosebud County Sheriff's Office, the bus driver and bus monitor were also injured.
The three were taken to a hospital; the nature and severity of their injuries has not been released at this point.
The Montana Highway Patrol website reports that a fatal crash occurred on Highway 212 at mile marker 51 shortly before 7 a.m.
Roads in the area were "extremely slick," the Sheriff's Office said.
