GREAT FALLS — Al Shryer earned a Bronze Star during his military service back in 1971 - and finally received his medal in Great Falls on Wednesday.
Last winter, Shryer was looking at his "DD Form 214" and other old documents from his time in the service when he noticed he had earned a Bronze Star for his service in Vietnam.
A Bronze Star is awarded to members of the armed forces for either heroic achievement, heroic service, meritorious achievement, or meritorious service in a combat zone.
Shryer is thankful his service was recognized.
“What we did over there just wasn’t appreciated by very few people or that was appreciated by very few people so to get this kind of validates me being over there and what I did.”
U.S. Senator Steve Daines of Montana presented the medal to Shryer.
